Fixing Dents
Explore our step-by-step guide to fixing dents and restoring the smooth surface of your solid wood furniture.
Dents can happen from everyday use, but with the right care and techniques, you can make your furniture look as good as new.
1. Sand the Dent: Lightly sand the area with the dent and approximately 10 cm around it to prevent color variations, using coarse sandpaper along the grain. Be sure to remove all dust before moving on to the next step.
2. Apply Moist Heat: Dampen a cotton cloth (not dripping), place it over the dent, and iron on high heat without direct contact with the wooden surface. Avoid using nylon or other materials that might melt or burn. Ensure the cloth remains damp and wrinkle-free.
3. Repeat as Necessary: Repeat the ironing process until the dent is gone.
4. Smooth the Surface: Lightly sand the area again, first with coarse sandpaper and then with finer sandpaper, to achieve a smooth finish. Remove all dust before proceeding.
5. Apply Oil: Pour a small amount of the same type of oil originally applied to the wooden surface onto a cotton cloth. For clean hands and to prevent them from getting sticky, we suggest wearing rubber gloves.
6. Rub in the Oil: Gently rub the oil into the wood along the grain, covering the treated area. Allow the oil to set for 3-5 minutes, but no longer to avoid stickiness. Remove any excess oil with a clean cotton cloth, again following the grain.
7. Allow to Cure: Let the treated area cure by leaving it to dry for 24 hours. This ensures the oil sets properly on the treated area.
