Applying a New Coat of Oil
Explore our step-by-step guide to reoiling your solid wood furniture and maintain its pristine appearance.
1. Clean and Apply Oil: Begin by cleaning the wooden surface with a slightly damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Allow the surface to dry completely. Then, pour a small amount of the same type of oil originally applied to the furniture onto a cotton cloth. For clean hands and to prevent them from getting sticky, we suggest wearing rubber gloves.
2. Spread the Oil: Gently spread the oil over the entire surface in small batches to ensure it doesn't sit on the surface for too long, which helps to prevent any staining.
3. Oil the Edges: Make sure to oil the edges. This part of the furniture is often overlooked, but it's essential to treat the edges with the same care as the surface. Properly oiling the edges helps maintain the overall appearance and durability of your furniture.
4. Remove Excess Oil: Remove any excess oil with a clean cotton cloth after 3-5 minutes, following the grain.
5. Allow to Cure: Let the treated area cure by leaving it to dry for 24 hours. This ensures the oil sets properly on the surface.
